FS: Rolex 16550 Transitional Explorer II Black Dial w/Recent Service - $3800 Shipped
The info in this ad supersedes any prior advertisements for this watch.
For Sale: Rolex 16550 Explorer II with black dial. The 16550 was a transitional model that slotted in between the outgoing 1655 "Steve McQueen" and the later, more common reference 16570. It was only produced for about five years and was also the first Explorer II to feature an independently adjustable hour hand which could be set without stopping the movement. To house this new 3085 movement, a new thicker case was required (shared with the 16760 GMTII "Fat Lady") which also had thicker crown guards and a unique square font on the bezel. This particular piece has serial number 9582xxx which is circa approximately 1986. Condition: Condition is "excellent" 91% per the TimeZone guidelines. Watch presents very nicely overall but bezel does have a couple little dings and bracelet has many fine scratches. Please note that while the hands are several shades lighter than the dial plots, I do believe them to be original, as this variation in patina seems to be a common occurrence for the era. Bracelet is a 93150 oyster fliplock with 11 links (short 1 link), 593 endlinks, and "K11" clasp code which coincides with the age of the watch head. Complete overhaul at a cost of $609 was performed in February 2015 and comes with three year warranty. Accessories: Sale includes service papers as shown. The modern Rolex box in the photos is just a platform for photography and is not included. Price & Terms: Final price reduction: $3800 FIRM includes fast domestic (U.S.) shipping with insurance. Bank wire preferred but paypal may be considered if buyer is well established and agrees to pay the 3% fee. Looking for an outright sale, sorry no trades. As far as references, I have completed literally dozens of transactions with forum members and substantial positive feedback can be located by searching for my username "NKflyer". Please inquire if further info is needed regarding references. No returns unless watch is significantly not as described so please view pics very carefully and ask any questions you might have before committing to purchase. Private message or email [email protected] is the best way to contact me. Thanks! |
