Just had a hair-raising experience- the kind that I had always dreaded.

During a routine inspection of a out-lying construction site, I was talking to the Project Head in his well-laid out office when I accidentally bumped my watch into the frame of the metal door to his cabin.
I didn't notice this minor bump at the time but later, when I was talking to the site team, I glanced at my watch (green sub, bought around 3 months ago from my AD) and was horrified to notice that the glass seemed to be chipped at the 10 o'clock position.
I checked the ceramic bezel, seemed to be fine but that glass.....!!

Passed the rest of the day in a haze- I just didn't even want to look at the watch. Fortunately, I was able to keep busy- so many things happen on construction sites and that was a real blessing.

On the flight back home, I checked out the watch- there appeared to be a lot of glass debris piled up around the 10 o'clock mark. I was able to push some away with my fingernail but resisted using more force as I was worried I might end up pushing glass slivers onto the dial and perhaps into the watch innards. I even tried wiping the watch face with a wet tissue; could feel the bump and thought I could even discern the crack along the edge.
I did wonder how the sapphire glass chipped so easily but possibly this was just my bad luck- hit the glass at just the right angle and boom!!

Passed the flight in a cloud of gloom- was remembering the cost of replacing the sapphire glass. As the watch is new, regular service wouldn't be due for years. So either I bite the bullet and move around with a cracked watch face- and risk it collapsing completely at some point in time.
Or bite another bullet- and change the glass. And pay a bomb

Since I had been touching the watch face almost continuously for the past few hours, it was covered in finger grease. When I reached home, I used a little Veraet and gently scrubbed along the bezel edge with a watch brush and lo and behold, the crack just vanished!!

What I had thought was glass debris piling up was paint that had been pushed out from the door frame I'd bumped into- I have never been so relieved!
Just thought I'd share- in case someone has the same experience
