First time owner makes a lifetime owner
Hello all,
I've been eyeing the Rolex brand for many years now but have never actually gone to an AD to try one on. Finally stepped into one last year in Grand Cayman and was blown away at the prices they commanded but also the quality with the pieces I tried on felt (DateJust II). I walked out of there purchasing a Longines Conquest to hold me over telling myself, "someday". The past year I've been researching and scouring TRF and WatchUSeek learning all about the different brands and movements. Oris, Ball and Omega were on my list of watches to get next if I wasn't getting into Rolex. Fast forward to September and I got married, followed by a honeymoon which included Hong Kong. How could I not window shop while in the luxury watch import/export capital. After trying on all the different models, the difference in quality was apparent but I couldn't bring myself to pull the gun. I made enough and can certainly spend the amount but the thought that I could have purchased multiple quantities of less expensive watches inhibited me. My lovely wife saw the dilemma brewing in my mind and insisted that she buy it for me as my wedding present. Hence, I reached out to some ADs in Hong Kong for the best price and within the next day which also happened to be the day I was leaving to come home I found her. I rushed over to the AD, 4 hours before my flight to pick her up. My Rolex Explorer II, ref 216570. I couldn't be happier and I'm not sure if I'm able to wear any other watch on my wrist...until my next one. |
