114300 - Can't decide between blue or grey? Get both. Sorta.
I wanted the 114300 immediately after seeing it at Basel in 2015.
Previously I'd tried the 39mm Explorer but didn't like the hands. Or the dial. Just not an Explorer guy, I suppose. But definitely don't like dates. I've also had the Milgauss in black & green (too tall), Datejust 36, Explorer 36, 5513s, 14060s, 114060.. you get the idea. Rolex design is archetypal but I couldn't find one that felt right for me. Until I saw the blue dial & rhodium dial Perpetuals. Now - which one? Well, I have a blue Aqua Terra but it has a date so I don't wear it much. And the grey seemed like I might get bored. Maybe it was *too* quienticential. Like Nomos' perfect Orion. Just *too* perfect. Then along came a Seamaster 300. Black was just too heavy for me & so I hunted for the blue. Found one! Arrived right before Christmas. Wore it 8 days straight while on holiday. Unfortunately right -after- Christmas a 114300 came along in rhodium at a really good price too. Decisions. Decisions. Kidding. Here they both are. For all those considering the new Perpetual - take a good, hard look. It's clean, stately but feels new & casual. I think it should work with a suit, jeans & everything in between.
