Explorer 1 v Blue Dial Yachtmaster
I'm in the market for a new Rolex watch and have narrowed it down to the Explorer 1 (214270) v Blue Dial Yachtmaster (116622). I like the YM a little bit more than the Explorer I, but there are a few things stopping me from buying:
1. Retail Price - $AUD ~$14k for YM vs $AUD ~$8k for the Explorer 1. That would be the number 1 concern for me. Sure, the YM has a date a bezel that can measure an hour and a bit of platinum, but am not sure it's worth $6k more. Is there something that I've missed (ie, an iconic history or any, other intangible factors, such as the YM being discontinued soon?) 2. I hear the YM's platinum bezel may be easily scratched. The Explorer 1 is more durable? 3. Resale value - I've read that YM's resale value isn't the best although I don't know how well the Explorer holds up either. If someone knows, please chime in, and preferably with some numbers behind it. I'm planning to wear the watch for both work and play and my view is that either of the watches can serve those purposes. I'm just having a hard time paying $6k more for the YM. Appreciate your comments. |
