Metal Gear Solid 4 game impressions
I've never seen one of these threads yet, so here goes.
I just finished playing MGS4, a game by creator Hideo Kojima. I now understand why reviewers give it 9-10 ratings. Some say that it's the greatest game ever (so far). It's the most impressive and epic game I've played. Granted I'm not a hardcore gamer. This is the final (?) "game" in the series that goes back to 1987 (according to wiki). The game is Star Wars in scope, Japanese anime type game. It's about a about a family in which a brother, Liquid Ocelot schemes to take over the world. His twin, Snake, a reluctant Special Operations guy who is there to stop him. The gamer plays Snake, he and other heroes go on various missions to stop Liquid from taking over a computer system that controls the military industrial complex. This system is called "Sons of the Patriots." It's set in 2014 Set in 2014. Countries use private military companies (PMCs) to fight wars for business purposes. Nanotechnology is used to enhance all soldiers; most weapons are microchipped and can only be used by authorized personnel. Practically everything is controlled by SOP. What makes the game interesting is not the fantasy/conspiracy theory of it all but the blending of the game with a story. Unlike a movie where you just watch, the player watches and participates. The blending of play and "movie" is really neat and I now understand why people find this game "revolutionary" and the future of gaming. Rent or buy it. It's a really good show! |
