Relatively new to Rolex collecting
Hello all. Robert here on the coast of NC. Got a little more into watches in the last couple years and finally got my first Rolex worthy of mention. Found an '06 Sea Dweller with box and papers from the guys at HG Milton to call my own.
Been a fan of Omegas since 1981 when I worked at NASA relieving the rocket boosters from the space shuttle program. Most of the astronauts and engineers were sporting Speedmasters and when I started asking questions ended up learning about the tests NASA conducted and how Omega came out on top both times. Took me a few years but I finally sprung for a mint '83 Speedy with box and papers. I've since picked up a 1963 steel with black dial DeVille with date and polished steel 1965 DeVille with silver starburst dial and original grains of rice bracelet. Last year I treated myself to a BNIB Diver 300m for daily wear and that reinvigorated my interest in watches. I picked up the DeVilles, a 1950's gold bumper, and this year found a 1958 Croton Nivada Grenchen Aquamatic, 1970 Desotos chronograph with a Valjoux 7734 movement and original Corfam band, and my first Rolex, a 1944 Oyster Royal. That's when I caught the Rolex bug. No now I'm looking at purchasing a safe for my home, some sort of watch storage system, not sure if it's a box or a roll, but need something. Also looking into a spring bar tool and tweezers. I'm not a huge fan of changing out straps, I prefer original if I get that, but need to replace a couple bands that aren't worthy and should be able to at least change them myself. I'm always interested in learning from others and will be perusing the forums looking for bits and pieces of useful info. Feel free to share if something I've written has sparked interest. Thanks! |
