It was a cultural thing with him. He associated RADO with the dowry tradition in India. He had strong feelings about it and that carried over to the watch which was apparently in vogue as a dowry gift. He supposedly disliked the design and aesthetics as well but I'm guessing that was secondary as he never saw a RADO he liked.
