How do you lay your watch?

So Ive read a few articles lately about laying your watch in certain positions like crown side down, opposite side down or flat will cause the timing of the watch to change.

So my question, Will the watch eventually return back to the previous state before you placed the watch in this certain position? Am I missing something?

It seems that this trick is only a band-aid for a watch that needs to be regulated..
