Vintage Rolex Explorer - Help identifying needed

Hi everyone, I have been searching for some time but have not come up with much on this..the history of this watch is it was given to me by a friend who came by one day and said "here", "this old thing has been sitting in my dresser and I don't know what to do with it", it was his Mothers gift to his father on their wedding day. "1950-60's? (His father passed away a couple of years ago) so now I have it, and whenever I try to give it back...he shrugs his shoulders and really expresses no interest in it. even though I have expressed it could be worth something more then just a Heirloom. Unfortunately him and his son do not care for watches. So in the meantime I thought I would dig up some information on it and track down an original replacement band and maybe once it is complete and polished up, maybe he would like it back.
Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
