Swallowing buttons

So I came home today to the news that my 1yr old daughter had swallowed 1/3" size plastic button. My wife was so devastated that she broke the news to me as a guilty confession.

I'll skip over the details on how this happened, but my wife had called our pediatrician in panic and was told that it should be okay but we should look out for obvious symptoms of her becoming sick and that we should go to the ER if anything seems abnormal.

Now I know its common that toddlers swallow all sorts of things but not surehow to view this at her age. I know I shouldnt be asking for medical advice here but since I know we have some resident doctors here thought it wouldn't hurt to ask whether I should be overly concerned about this situation. We are first time parents so hope you understand.
