Early Panerai Radiomir cases were designed by Rolex and the watches used Rolex movements. Panerai were military suppliers from 1930s - 1990s.

@OP - I would hang on to the 389 and maybe switch out the strap to freshen its appeal (one of the fun aspects of Panerai ownership). Taking a big hit and then buying another watch that will also depreciate (if not as much) makes no sense to me. Nice to have some contrast in a collection.
