Vintage Omega Seamaster Soccer Timer Chronograph Ref. 145.016 Cal. 861

If you’ve browsed the site, it’s pretty obvious we have a soft spot for functional vintage watches, especially chronographs. One of our favorites is the Omega Soccer timer, which was originally developed for referees of the 1970 World Cup to keep time during the matches. The colorful subdials and added 45 minute indicator on the minute recorder subdial certainly made the task a bit easier in the Mexican sun that year, and the watch has lived on with collectors as a unique and purpose-built tool chronograph.

Here we have an Omega Seamaster Soccer Timer chronograph, reference 145.016-68 with a 30.5XXXXX serial number dating production to approximately 1969. Save a replacement OEM crystal, this watch appears completely original.

Case: 38mm case (exc. crown) in outstanding condition. Case is unpolished and retains its original finish with incredibly sharp lines throughout. Crown and pushers also appear original to the watch.

Dial/Hands: Original dial and handset in very good condition as shown. The grey dial has a pleasin even patina to the hour markers and all of the signature colorful accents retain their color and vibrance. The dial shows some very light, sparse spotting visible in the photos. The original hands are also in very good condition, with the minute hand missing some lume.

Caseback: Original Seamaster caseback marked 145.016-68 inside, with excellent crisp engravings on the outside.

Crystal: Newly fitted OEM Omega acrylic crystal.

Movement: Original Caliber 861 hand wound chronograph movement in excellent condition with the watch keeping excellent time and all functions working as they should.

Bracelet/Strap: Original bracelet in very good condition as pictured currently sized for a 7.25" wrist with two micro-extensions still available on the clasp.

Accessories: None. Sold as watch and bracelet only.
