It's your money, and you are absolutely free you spend it as you see fit... but, I would consider getting the reimbursement and buying something else for your checked bag. Tumi is a great option, as others have said. Whatever bag you pick, it WILL get damaged if you check it. Just watch as they load them on the plane... they are not gentle. LV is meant for carry on or private flying, imo.
