So he’s really saying the seller sold a faulty watch - that’s what he’s describing as a scam.

Fair enough, but is there a way for a seller to jerry-rig a watch to magically work for a few days before it stops? It could be a scam, but it sounds more like the watch stopped working. "Scam" is malicious and intentional. "Sh!t happens" is life.
