Newb here... hey y'all

Some weeks after my daughter moved into her apartment at college, she noticed a watch laying on the carpet in a corner of her closet. The bezel says that it is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master.

The previous tenant and possible owner returned to their homeland overseas. The apartment complex refused to divulge their contact information. So she brought the watch home and handed it off to me.

The watch has seen some wear and doesn't work. My daughter thinks it may be a knockoff and not the real thing. I guess taking it to a local Rolex dealer should clear that up.

But if this happens to be the real thing, then is there a way to use the Rolex "network" to return the watch to its rightful owner? If so, how do I go about doing this?

Thanks,
GB
