1978 Daydate advice

I have been looking at a new(ish) Daydate - in yellow gold - as my next addition (seeking a dressier, classic watch).

A new one or nearly near is going to cost me circa £25,000 or so.

What I I went for an old version - I can see a 1978 (my birth year) for around £7,500.

What would I need to look out for, on such an old watch? Obviously it is a 36 instead of a 40, but any other issues / cautionary advice? How different is that watch going to be to the new models?
