Icon20 First rolex incoming!

After 3 years and 15 exams I finally managed to qualify as a chartered accountant as an ACA (UK equivalent to the CPA) in July.

2 years ago I expressed my interest in watches and horology to my father, he said that if I managed to pass all of my exams he would gift me a watch as a reward.

I looked at various brands and models but ended up with Rolex due to the brand credibility, model selection and quality of the watches they produce.

I researched for a month looking at various models ranging from the Submariner to the Daytona but ended up with the DateJust 41 as I felt it had the perfect blend of casual and sporty look for everyday use. It also appeared to be realistic in terms of obtaining from an AD.

I went into London to visit a few ADs and unfortunately none of them had this exact configuration in stock, it appeared to have long waiting times due to the high demand for Rolex models over the past few months.

I put my name down on a waiting list at Pragnell in Mayfair and got a call back in 3 weeks which was significantly sooner than I expected. I visited the store today and collected the watch with my father, it was a really enjoyable experience.

The watch itself feels incredible, the blue dial appears to change shade depending on the sunlight and the whole watch feels durable and high quality. The new 3235 movement with 70 hour power reserve was a big factor in choosing this model which I think will be great for everyday use.

Now whenever I look down on my wrist the watch reminds me of the hard work I put in to qualify, the relationship I have with my father and also my love of watches and horology.

It is a watch I plan on keeping for a very long time and eventually handing down to my children as a family heirloom.
