Panerai Tubes?

A friend of mine gave me a leather strap for my PAM 111. It's a pre-vendome with the classic buckle. Well, the buckle is pre-vendome the strap is Circa (first time to use this word, I hope I used it correctly) 2000.

Anyway, I replaced the strap and really liked it. The thing is, I forgot to use the metal tubes from the OEM strap. It fits perfectly snug, but should I use the tubes anyway? Would this give any chance to bend the pins or something? I would like to keep it on without the tubes but want to make sure it won't ruin anything else.

Pardon my ignorance and thanks in advance.
