How can you trash the OP? Did he sign some sort of non-compete or something? Assuming not, then you are ALWAYS a free agent open to someone coming in and offering you what you are really worth. It’s called free enterprise. Seems pretty evident it’s your old company who will be worse off.

I definitely would call a lawyer. Maybe it was an honest mistake on the prospective company’s part but people get sued and lose all the time for mistakes.
