Incoming 16710 Pepsi!

Aloha everyone! I’d like to say MAHALO to Jacek at HQ Milton for this beautiful Pepsi! The transaction was smooth and I couldn’t be happier with my new timepiece. I wanted either a later tritium dial before the transition to luminova, or a later luminova dial before it was replaced by the 6-digit reference 116710, depending on the price and overall condition of the watch. I was fortunate to pick up this tritium dial with a T6- serial dating it in the 1996/1997 timeframe. Some thoughts on my Pepsi that I’ve had the pleasure of wearing for about a week now:

- Overall Impressions: the watch is much lighter than my 6-digit references and does wear very comfortably. The proportions are just right in my eyes and truthfully was the main reason why I was looking for this 5-digit reference 16710. The proportions I’m referring to include the dial and bezel’s presence in relation to the body which though prominent appears “slim” compared to today’s 6-digit references as well as the hour indices and WG surrounds on the dial itself. The beveled lug edges are nice and sharp and was another key detail I was looking for.

- Dial and Bezel: I’m hoping for a nice even patina to develop over time and was able to get the tritium plots to glow for a couple of seconds the other night. I will definitely enjoy the beautiful Pepsi bezel currently installed and plan to obtain Coke and black bezel inserts in the future.

- Bracelet: 78790 Oysterlock bracelet stamped Z1 with non-SEL 501B end links. If there is one thing that I’m not a huge fan of per se is the bracelet. It works, and it’s comfortable enough, BUT I do prefer the newer bracelets as they just feel more secure. I plan to pickup a Jubilee bracelet in the future though.

- Final Thoughts: I love it! I get the “charm” that some owners have referred to when talking about this timepiece. It is a nice watch that I’m glad to have in my collection.

A picture of my current collection is below. My daily beaters are the SubC and Polar. Moving forward, what next!? Two references on my radar are a Bleusy (5-digit late luminova ref 16613 or maybe the 6-digit ref 116613, I just love the sunburst dial) and a birthyear ref 5513. I do like many of the pieces in the current Rolex lineup including the Smurf and GMT IIs but would also like a PP one day. Very fortunate to enjoy these timepieces. Have a great weekend everyone.
