First incoming: his and hers SubC and YM37

I'm a long time reader but only joined recently. So excited to now be part of the club! In the last couple of weeks my wife and I have both gotten our first Rolexes and couldn't be happier.

When I was a kid my dad was really proud to get a quartz Tag Heuer 1000 diver at our Navy post exchange, and still wears it to this day. It was my first exposure to watches and I loved it. Hours pouring over Rolex print ads in National Geographic planted the seed in my mind that I would one day own the originals.

Now 30+ years later, having explored the hobby with Omega and Hamilton, I was ready to go back to the sources: a Submariner and a GMT Master II. I knew the wait could be long, and I asked to be on the waiting list and entertained myself browsing TRF. My wife started to take notice and asked to come along on my next AD visit to try on a DJ or two.

While browsing the ladies DJ collection, uninspired and losing steam, she happened to glance at a YM37. I had assumed the size would not appeal, but the sporty look, rhodium dial, and ice blue accents really sang to her; we bought it then and there. Wonderful to share some of this hobby with her (and perhaps now easier to justify future purchases!) Happy wife, happy life!

The real surprise came just a few days later when I got the call that my 114060 had come in! I immediately thought that our new purchase had bundled me to the top of the list, but in fact the SA calling about the Sub was a different person I had talked to only once on my very first visit to the AD and was unaware of my wife's recent purchase. So the timing was great and the AD was earnest in putting me on a list and honoring that when my turn came up!

Special thanks to Al and the rest of the great folks at Simon's Jewelers in Clayton, MO for coming through with these two great pieces and providing a really great experience to us as first-time customers. I'm looking ahead to ultimately adding the GMT II and perhaps a white OP39, but for now am just so excited to have these beauties!

Thanks for reading and for all the inspiration up to now!
