Only the wearer of the watch can say what is too big for them.

My wife is skinny. She can pull off a 34mm through to a 45mm, no problem.

Who are you to tell her what she should wear?

Are you saying someone can never say that one thing looks better than another on a person or people? Odd position.

What I'm saying is making judgements on what a woman can/can't/should/shouldn't do is down to the individual who is wearing it and nobody else's business. Least of all some mouth on a forum who thinks they know what's best for women. Good grief! 1950s much?

You can’t stop people having opinions on what looks good or bad though, as long as they don't feel that anyone has to act on those opinions...

40m, no problem My wife's daily is a 36DJ. She also has a 50m Tuna, for me it seems big but she gets away with it with her smaller wrist. It's more like fun fashion to her. Actually I need to measure it, may be 55m

I think a lot of 40mm watches are flattering on a women. One girl I dated loved wearing my Sub and it actually looked great on her. But it always depends on their wrist and how they carry it, just like men with a sub 6" wrist trying to wear a 46mm.

I guess the OP is referring to the one in the middle. I see a couple of things happening here....farther up the thread is some blonde super model apparently and she's rocking it like a woman would do the whole "I'm in my boyfriend's giant shirt thing". The OP example looks like someone trying to look more androgynous (sorry if I'm using the wrong term there are 58 genders now apparently).

I know Ellen wears a BLXX (can't remember which) and it looks great on her because it fits into the rest of her outfit and look. For me, a watch looks good if it's congruent with the whole look they're going for.

I'm judging, but I'm not judging the person because who am I to do that? The list of flaws I have is longer than the BLRO so-called-list at my AD. What I'm judging is the style itself. It's a preference or taste.

Let's flip it around, a burly aggressively bearded man, wears a dainty 28 mm diamond encrusted Cartier. Are we judging him? Maybe some do. I call it making some inferences about him, some of which may be true, some not but that's our human nature. In any case I'm making a "judgement" that his outfit isn't congruent. I don't see any issue with that.

I like big watches on women! My wife's largest is a 34mm air king, but since my vintage snowflake recently came in, she's been asking if she could wear it. Only 1 answer to that...ABSOLUTELY!

My wife often wears many of my watches, DD40 & Hulk more frequently.

She also wears the Daytonas quite a lot, but then they are not true 40mm

Reason for this post.... I have just always thought 31m-36m with 36m being max on what I assumed was a max size for a lady sporting a Rolex. My wife has a 34m SS Oyster and it wears well. So seeing a 40m took me back a bit and I love it.

Women wearing 40m

My fiancee saw my new GMT Master CHNR, took ownership and got me to resize it.
She loves the rosegold and can easily pull it of.

My wife loves to wear my watches for fun and they look great on her (40-43mm). She has a 5.25 in wrist. Her preferred size outside of fun is 34-36mm

Lol, he's not saying they'll get thrown in jail for wearing large watches, just that often times they don't look great (something I agree with by the way).

It's no different than saying large shoulder pads don't look great on women, or nuthugger shorts don't look great on men. Are you really saying one can't have that position? In fact, I bet you'd react far less negatively to someone saying that watches under 30mm typically don't look great on men (again, something I also agree with).

My general view is that large watches don't typically look great on women, in that there is usually a more optimal choice. That said, I DO think they look good on larger women who can handle the size. They also can look good on very beautiful, feminine women, in much the same way that 90s Pam Anderson could pull off masculine clothing like slacks, suspenders and a tie.

OP stated a light hearted opinion and then followed up by saying 40mm isn't bad looking on a woman.

You're overreacting Harry. Obviously I agree with your sentiment here, but it's completely misplaced. Unless the OP was edited, i don't know what you're getting so worked up about.

Personal preference I guess, I think 36-40mm looks great on women. I tried to give my wife my old SubC before I sold it, she said it was too big and too manly looking. So I tried a 5 digit Sub, no go. Thought I had a winner with a 36mm Explorer...no dice.

She picked a 31mm Oyster Perpetual, she loves it, and it looks fantastic.

it’s all subjective. i tend to like larger watches myself, so i think on the right woman a 40mm watch looks amazing. my 4’11” ex would’ve looked very funny with it on her wrist; i bought her a cartier instead and it looked amazing.
