Got mine today, as I do every year... how many TRF peeps get flu shots?

Also interested to see if this is just a USA thing or do other countries offer these.

My wife is a Nurse and works with a lot of Drs she doesn't get the shot and I never have. The Drs that work in hospitals get it because the facility requires it the private practice Drs she knows none of them get the shot.

I won’t get into the discussion of should you or shouldn’t you

But I have watched patients die from Influenza despite using every intervention that modern medicine provides. Tragic !

I concur and I'm in the business as well and I always take the flu shot. I recommend it to patients and respect their right for freedom of choice (Sub Date vs. Sub ND) however it is an incumbent responsibility to ensure patients are educated regarding up to date evidence based research allowing them to make an informed choice. Most people do not appreciate the sheer number of people (including in the US) that die from Influenza.

CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2017–2018 season was also high with an estimated 48.8 million people getting sick with influenza, 22.7 million people going to a health care provider, 959,000 hospitalizations, and 79,400 deaths from influenza.

We are in agreement.

I respect everyone’s right to choose, nevertheless

People die from all sorts of things even when every intervention is used. When it is YOUR time to go, you will go. I believe the flu shot is a big $$ making sham. Heck every year you hear the same thing in the news that "they" did not hit on the correct strain of flu and the shot is basically useless. My wife used to get one every year, and she would literally be SICK for a month after. Sometimes sick enough she had to seek treatment from a doctor. She finally said no more! This happened every time. I am stubborn and set in my ways and have NEVER had a flu shot in my 53 years on Earth. Was at Disney in Florida in 2013 and got sick down there. Literally had no energy to walk through the parks. Got home and seen my doctor and he did a flu test. Tested positive, by then had already rode out the worst part and was getting better. It really wasn't that bad except for the lack of energy. I have had a case of pneumonia/bronchitis which was much much worse than that flu. I will take my chances and choose to cheat death. Practice good handwashing hygiene and stay away from sick folks, keep your house humidified in the cold winter months and you will be good.

Got my first shingles vaccine right after the flu shot.. It hit me pretty good the next day I felt like I ran a marathon and then got beat up at the finish line.. Only last like 24 hours and I going in November to get the second shingles vaccine. Getting old is no fun...

Getting old does not have to suck. As long as you are healthy. Which many people are. I don't feel any worse at 53 than I did at 23. A few more pounds and glasses that's about it.

The flu almost killed me one year. I had the flu shot that year. Helped zero.

I haven’t had the shot since.

The vaccine is a shot in the dark at what might, maybe, could be a strain that will be a problem. As a patient, best guess isn’t my idea of good medicine.

True. I just turned 60 and take care of myself. I don't feel like 60 plus it helps that I stopped drinking alcohol 8 months ago after drinking beer almost everyday for 35 years. I went from 152 pounds to 140. I don't eat junk food and once a year go to my doctor for a physical. You're only as old as you feel and thankfully I feel good. Gotta treat your body good and it'll be good to you. .:)

I do and so do all my nurses and staff...if not, they are to wear masks for 3 months. It’s a huge problem when one doesn’t get the flu shot and then gets sick, then my whole staff gets sick....has happened before.
