Icon14 Vacheron Constantin or Lange

Visited both my favourite boutique at Old Bond Street.

Was contemplating between the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Manual wind or the Lange.

Love the hand guillochè dial on the boutique edition

or the Lange?

or an Up Down. Probably not this one as it's off my budget, but the normal white/silver dial.

i thought 1815 only in white dial - so wow.
I like the VC with the guilloche if this is a dress watch
Unless you need the date

I own 1815 chronograph boutique and VC Cornes de Vache Steel. I would go with Lange if letting me choice one between the two. However, for the Traditionelle boutique vs 1815, I go with the VC

VC with guillochè dial for me, please! I don’t like Lange’s big date window on dress watches.

Both are beautiful but I’ve always wanted a Lange, so that would be my vote. Their style across all the watches is consistent, and I’ll admit I’m partial to German engineering.

Lange is on another level. Can’t compare with VC. Up/down is fantastic.

1815 Up Down. Love mine! So many technical features many are not aware until they own one.

One of the very best VCs in their whole lineup, regardless of price.
Vs
An okay Lange with other Langes being a better choice if you had the budget.

The answer here is VC all the way.

All due respect to VC, but the Lange looks fantastic on your wrist. I imagine it’s also a lot more versatile

I really like Vacheron Constantin, their pieces and customer service. I was close to purchasing a few times, but never materialized.

I was at the bond street boutique a few weeks ago and tried that specific blue 1815, gorgeous piece that almost got me over the edge.
I ended up going with my original plan, the 1815 up/down with the silver dial.

Why?
First of all, I wanted a manual wind as I never had one. What can be better than a manual wind Lange with a power reserve?
I also like the aesthetics of it. The sub dials break it just enough to work in everyday use, as well as dressed up occasions.
the combination of rose gold, blue hands and that dial that changes hue in different lights from silvery/pearly/warm is just wonderful.
It's overall a great piece, that personality I could see staying in my collection without any "challengers".
(That of-course is referring to the specific piece, over the usual Lange merits such as craftsmanship etc.)

Service I got was really amazing, last time I felt a brand put so much effort into it's customers - it was actually VC, so you can't go wrong there either.

Having said that, I *will* be adding a VC to the collection at some point. Just get what you like and enjoy yourself - you cant go wrong either way!

What he said. That Lange is one of their very average ones.

The Up/Down an OK Lange?

I am curious, what you‘d suggest instead while staying in the budget.

Lange without a doubt, the finishing alone is on a different level. I will give hats off to VC though for their finishing.

I think he was referring to the Saxonia outsize date, not the 1815 up/down - which by the feedback I gathered from the Lange collectors I've met, and my own (biased) experience, is considered one of the more interesting and best value pieces on current offer.

Definitely one of the go-to's for first time buyers who prefer a more traditional look, but at the same time can speak to "the collectors" as well.
I met a Datograph perpetual owner that added one of those to his collection to compliment each-other.

Thanks for all the responses. I do agree that VC boutique experiences has always been top notch every time I drop by. Just for context I already have the VC Fifty Six Day Date, was just thinking of adding another watch to the collection.

Looking at the Lange Up Down blue dial, I think I may be able to stretch my budget a little bit more for it. It's down to either the Up Down LE or the VC Boutique edition. Hoewever I think the VC's 38mm would be more proportionate to my relatively small 6.3" wrist.

At this moment, I think I've ruled out the Outsize date Lange.

Here's a little silver to blue comparison for you, in case they didn't have the silver in stock.

I absolutely loved the blue dial, but for me it always was the pink gold, silver dial and blue hands when it comes to the 1815.
Not that I can't see myself wearing the blue, but more importantly: I don't see myself ever replacing the silver, whereas I might find other blue dialed watches I'd like in the future, or simply more likely to get tired of it at some point.
