Philly/South Jersey Get Together

Greetings! A few TRFers in Philly have broached the possibility of an informal get together. My thinking is, if there is enough of an interest, why not formalize this? If this is of interest to you, please respond to this post and recommend two restaurants (and their general locations) that you feel would be a good place to meet. We can decide as a group and take it from there.

My recommendations are for the White Dog - 34th & Sansom, University City, Penn's campus or Benny the Bum's, Red Lion & Bustleton, N.E. Philly. What restaurants do you recommend? Take care.

How about something in the Philly suburbs, perhaps in Plymouth Meeting or King of Prussia?

I'm from north jersey(morristown area) so I can't make any recommendations as I'm unfamilier with your area, but I'll be checking back on this post as I'd be interested in attending. Any TRFers local to me want to go together when this is finalized let me know.

Yummy!!! Sounds like a plan, but not the best places to have a watch GTG.

The small room at Pica's Pizza [since 1939, home of the square, red pie].

I'd love the opportunity to compare old and new style DateJust.

I might have my Date by the time this comes off.
[At least I think that is the style I've finally chosen].

There is a place right off the Blue Route in Havertown called Barnaby's. It is a restaurant and sports bar. They have a private room downstairs. Good food, good atmosphere and a decent central location.

Hi Guys,

After reading these posts, it looks like we have interested people who live out towards King of Prussia, and then there are those who live out in the N.E./Abington area. In fairness to all, perhaps we should meet downtown? While I'm not crazy about driving down there, there's a reason it was named "Center City." Your opinion please.

P.S. Also, I'm thinking about us meeting on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Please indicate your preferred day.

I'm in. Saturday or Sunday works for me also. I think center city is a good idea, but I cant think of anywhere down there to meet. Cheesesteaks do sound good, but probably not the best place for a watch GTG, as said before I'll try to think of someplace to meet and check back on this thread.

Good news! While Center City seemed like an ideal location, no one was able to name a restaurant that was suited to our needs. Therefore, I made a reservation at the White Dog Cafe (only 1 1/2 miles away from Center City) at 3420 Sansom St. on Penn's campus. We will have our own room, leaving us free to raise hell. The White Dog has incredible ambience and great food; you will be able to order brunch or lunch. Reservation was made for Saturday at noon on April 4th. (I made it a month in advance to help ensure decent weather and to give you sufficient scheduling notice.) Please confirm your reservation with me at least 2 days prior. This should be tremendous fun and I am looking forward to meeting everyone in person!

For directions or additional information, go to www.whitedogcafe.com. Accessible by publc transportation and parking is usually plentiful on Saturdays.

The staff at the White Dog told me that they can only reserve a private room for a party of 12 or more. In fairness to the restaurant, I am requesting that people confirm their reservation with me one week prior, by Sat., March 28th. If the number of people attending falls below 12, we can certainly still meet for lunch there, but we would not have a private room. Thanks for your consideration. Faith

I selected the White Dog as a meeting place since it is a centrally located place which I have frequented many times, and no one else had any recommendations for the CC/surrounding areas. Spoke with another member this morning who lives near me and we are both amenable to traveling to King of Prussia. Would a member who is familiar with the restaurants in and around the K of P mall, kindly suggest a good meeting place? This could be fun since there are two ADs, both J.E. Caldwells, strategically located on each side of the mall. Thanks, Faith

Faith, let me do some research on a good meeting place restaurant at or near the KoP Mall. There is a Tourneau in the Plaza section of the mall as well.

I was in KoP last weekend. The JE Caldwell in the Court was closed for inventory or something when I was there. So down to one JE. There are a ton of restaurants around there, but I cant think of any where we couldn't get rushed out after our meal was finished (if we didnt want to eat and run).

I would try to attend. K of P works for me. Just have to think where. Caldwell's in the Plaza is my AD. I would let Ed know we were coming in if we decide to go there.

Taffi,
I sent you a PM. There is a Morton Steakhouse in the K of P Mall and dozens of other restaurants. Plus, the mall is right at the exit of the PA Turnpike. It is both easy to get to and easy to find.
Thanks for putting this together.

I spoke with Jeff at Caldwell's and told him we might stop by on April 4th. He told me he will contact their Rolex rep and try to arrange for him to be available for the sole purpose of meeting with our group. I am waiting to hear back from Jeff and will update everyone as plans unfold.
