What does it mean to you to be a Rolex owner ?

Hi,

I'm just thinking about what it means to be to be a Rolex owner and it would be interesting to read your thoughts. Of course it's a bit exposing but let's share :-)

Well, I'm now 34 years old, have a nice appartement where I live with my wife and kid. We have our car and are financially stable enough for me to buy a Rolex. It hasn't always been this way for me. I remember being an adolescent looking at the ad window at the crazy Rolex prices and be like...wow, those are expensive.

hm, funny how things go.

So to some extend my Rolex is a cherry on a cake when I look at my life now. It's the proof that I'm just fine.

On the other hand of course it's mighty fine watch. Very well build for a mass production product and probably the top of the line for it.

But still, it's somehow just a watch that remembers me time, date and helps to keep track easily of the minutes sometimes.

So, I'd say it's a balance between a tool, and a statement for myself. I'm not trying to impress anybody.

Similar for me, I’m 31 wanted one for a long time, when I was younger I remember hearing the name. Always been into watches and had a bunch of affordable pieces and some Omegas but decided to save up and downsize and get what I truly wanted and not compromise.

I was finally able to pick one up for myself and enjoy it. To me it reminds me of the journey and working hard to get to this point in my life.

I always wanted a Rolex. I hit a ton of goals recently (nice promo, bought my first house, saved a decent amount for retirement, etc.). I'm 32 yrs old and decided to treat myself and buy my first Rolex.

My watch is a reminder that hard work pays off.

A great way to tell the Time.
Understand what you mean, it is also a nice personal marker point in my life. The first was to pay for my family. They are more expensive and mean more to me than even a Rolex. They all make me proud.

To me, it means I do not have to recharge a smart watch to tell the time - nor wear and look at my mobile for the same reason. I could just as well worn a Seiko, Omega or any other brand TBH. However, I like the perpetual design of the Rolex better so wearing a Rolex most of the time.

Definitely a milestone marker. Having achieved a certain point where I can afford to buy the quality or select few things I want. Its still just a watch without super natural powers but it makes me happy and I enjoy owning one (hopefully several down the road).

I'm glad to be able to buy nice things. No doubt. But it doesn't mean much more than that, and that I can tell the time ~ +/-2 seconds/day.

Owning a Rolex means absolutely nothing to me. These are mass produced items that can be purchased by anyone with the money to do so.

I do not value my life based on things that I can buy.

To those that do place value on such things, I hope you enjoy it for years to come.

I just like mechanical watches and I like a few makes in particular, including Rolex. I'm not trying to say something about myself to anyone else. Those who think I am, should maybe ask themselves why their lives are so meaningless that they need to live mine.

10yrs older more or less then TS.
Now in a position where I never have to work for someone else unless I want to.

I have worked nights/overtime/weekends and been frugal wisely investing my earnings.
Been told im cheap and boring...but a fool and his money ....

Many of my peers still struggle to make that mortgauge or car payment.
Loss of job is loss of home...No paycheck...no rent.

So yeah...I buy whatever I like and do whatever I feel like. And I do not feel sorry since most anybody could have done the same journey as I did.

If I want something the only period I get excited is the initial period of trying to make the deal and after I wear for a while I tend to reduce my excitement.... except my Batman..

I don’t get it , that’s a lot of money for something that means nothing to you and is a completely superfluous “tool”. Why do you buy them. Not trying to be confrontational or anything it just seems odd to me.

Sure it’s mass produced and sure everyone can have one. It doesn’t make who you are but they are nice watches and are well made

I love the history of the brand. I would have a Rolex just for that. When it’s on my wrist it’s like a I’m wearing a time-machine. I enjoy wearing it when I’m alone more than when I’m with people!

My Dad bought me a Bulova watch in 1964 that looked like a mini Submariner. I still have it too although the bracelet is long gone. I discovered the Submariner in 79 and my wife bought it for me. I tend to keep my watches under a sleeve cuff so I just love the brand and am happy to have them! I don't give my YG Daytona much wrist time due to its startling (IMO) looks but I guess these days, my SS Rolex's are almost just as showy... Its kind of an honor to have these but I don't like making a big deal out of them.

It meant alot to me when I got my first as I never really thought I would own one, growing up my family were very frugal with no real luxuries, so owning a Rolex was not even a dream back then. A few years on and I've become more blase about owning then which is natural with time, but I still remember the delight I had when I first bought one and don't take it or my privilege for granted.

I grew up broke, poor and living by myself at 14 years of age. made something of myself got a Rolex datejust tt at 19 years old and it still reminds of the achievement I strived for. Ten years later, I still have it (and a couple more) and love it as much as the day I bought it.
