Will the price increase affect your buying decision?

Popular models have just risen in price 10-12% in Australia. I had a hard time justifying buying a GMT CHNR 2 months ago at MSRP. If I hadn't already received my watch I would be cancelling the order after today's price increase. At what point do you say "it's not worth it"? Will the price increase have any affect on demand?

I thought even getting one in AUS at MRSP was difficult?
You’d have done well at MRSP and if you cancelled someone would be only too happy to take your place

As long as demand stay high and watches keep their value, I don't think the price increase will affect the buying decisions. People will always justify it that they can get their money back or more at resale.

Increase of <10% means nothing for most Rolex buyers.
If you can afford 10K you will also be able to fork out 11K.

This minor increase has zero effect on the demand

For me it will have bugger all effect on my Rolex buying decisions. Am I so wealthy that it makes no difference.

No it's the plain fact that Rolex currently don't make a watch I have any interest in buying, which is rather fortuitous given the lack of stock.

Just checked out uk.

DJ 41 on oyster 126300 gone from 5650 to 6150.

Sub no date 5750 -6300

Hulk 6950 to 7450 so 8-10 per cent across seems right. Not sure it’ll curb demand as mentioned above already quite overpriced so another 10 per cent peanuts.

Worth and value VERSUS enjoying your time. You know the answer deep within your heart.

Nothing has changed in decades here, as will keep enjoying my love of mechanical timepieces.

IMHO the point in life is to enjoy your time

PS: Always remember, time is your most precious commodity.

No decrease in demand for those who really want a Rolex at any price, but it might dissuade those who have been on the fence.

WIS will continue to buy what we want, because WIS!

Normal people and speculators won’t be put off so long as the resale market remains strong. Despite the angst on here about “investors” I genuinely think the average Rolex buyer is most interested in not taking a bath after spending 10k, rather than making money. So as long as they feel they could get their money back if they needed to, they will continue to buy.

The key decision remains "Will an AD choose to sell me one".

Not sure how true this is. Check the post on here about the London watch show. Apparently lots of people on this forum think long and hard before spending £35?! I’m with you, but lots are frugal on here which makes me wonder - how much are these people earning vs how much do they spend on watches each year - I’d love to know but will probably get banned for asking

I am more limited by the total cost than the increase. So those few watches that previously fit my budget still fit my budget even with the increase.

No.

I don’t get the concept of having to justify something to myself.

I agree with this.

I think lots of people buy expensive products because they want then, not because they think they are good value.

I doubt that many people who are prepared to pay what is, let’s be honest, silly money for watches, will be put off by a 10% increase in price.

This just about sums things up.

If an AD won’t sell me a watch the price really doesn’t matter that much!

I can afford to buy just about any watch I want, but I wouldn’t pay £35 to go and look at them in London. My wife and I have been invited to Rolex and PP watch shows and have been happy to go to different countries to attend them, but we have never been asked for a single penny to get into any of them.

Increase doesn't impact my buying decision. Also, aren't these increases what help drive value of Rolex's up over time? In addition, to demand and consistent high quality builds...

Increase wont affect crap. The increase in AU brings it more inline with the actual selling price in USD.

Its just bringing the gap closer to minimize the flippers.
