60's sub with earlier serial than case back...

Hi would it be legit for a vintage 5513 60's submariner to have a case serial number that is accurate for a year, 3 years older than compared to inside the case back? The dial and movement also seems to be consistent with a sub 3 years on from the serial number....

is this consistent with a genuine vintage piece?

thanks!

You’re probably looking at a franken.

Share the info. You could just be looking at an incorrect serial number list.

sure I'm looking at the serial number list from est1897 preowned in UK..(clearly wrong)

edit Bobswatches posts the serial number on case within 1 year on from the case back..

ok.... so its ok to have a case back within a year earlier than the serial number of case??

could anyone possibly link me to a certified list thanks!

There is no certified list, just people with lots of knowledge. Post the first digits of the serial and the info from inside the caseback and you will receive the fruits of their extensive research.

Caseback serial lists are estimates and could be a year or so either way. Any list that states specific dates and start/stop serials is wrong.

Of course, the case back may have been changed, but that doesn't happen all that often.

There is this list, which is based on actual data. One can also supplement this for specific time frames by pulling up old listings from dealer websites.

Not necessarily the case, no pun intended. You can have an otherwise legit from the factory sub that somewhere along the line had the caseback swapped due to cross threading or water resistance.

This particular member is asking a lot of vague and enigmatic questions with limited information, no photos, and no follow-up. I think he would get a better response if he were to introduce himself, be more forthcoming, specific and comprehensive in his questions (including good photos), and participate in the community. It's hard to help someone if he keeps asking vague piecemeal questions, especially since newbies often don't even really know the right questions to ask, and when they show photos, members often identify additional issues.

Caseback serial lists are just that, lists or estimates and could be a year or so either way...unless the casebacks and serial numbers are taken from actual watches such as the caseback serial project that I put together noted here that are taken from actual watches.
