At first I felt it was only to be worn on certain occasions but after a bit I wore it all occasions

It is only natural if you go from a 5K watch to a 20K watch, but as with the 5K you will soon get used to it being on you and you will think nothing more of it after time, as long as you can comfortably afford it.

I traded up from a TT GMT Master to a YG President in 1983. The President was discounted to me, ended up costing around 5k. I was very intimidated by how it might look. I got more comfortable over time but even today with my YG Daytona, I tend to wear it for special occasions and mostly it’s tucked up under my shirt cuff.

There’s no mistaking going from SS to full PM. Early on, the weight makes you much more aware of the watch on your wrist. The color (if YG or RG) is also obviously different. For awhile you do think of the increased value and increased susceptibility to scratches and dents due to the softer metal. But you eventually adjust to it. The same type of thing happens when you go from say a Citizen or Apple watch to a nice automatic.

In the event an unforeseen loss occurred, you get a replacement or the cash equivalent. No bank account hurting.

I’ve headed of insurance yes, but you still have the risk of being physically hurt

No. At first I was concerned that people would think I was a show off for wearing a full Everose gold Rolex, but nobody ever even notices it or comments on it. We here are much more focused on watches.

At conferences in Las Vegas I've worn different PM and steel watches. The only one that people commented on was a Batman2.0 in November. Several people asked where I got it etc. Nobody ever commented on my other watches.

Haha yeah I get it

I would still be wary of my surroundings tho

If the watch is insured, that doesn’t mean you won’t be stabbed or something in the process

But yes, at least you were not lose the money that way

So wearing it on my wrist and always alert to scratch or robbery or something, anything, that's not comfortable and I just won't.

You can do insurance like people are telling me above, but I still wouldn’t do it

Maybe if I found an older daydate for $10,000 or so I would

But pay idk, above $30,000 for a new one?

Nope, that’s not for me

⬆️⬆️⬆️ My thoughts as well. That’s the process that happened for me after acquiring my first PM piece.

TBH, in my opinion, the real barrier that gets broken is when you decide you want to spend Rolex money for a watch-any metal.

Once that line is crossed, you can make anything make sense.

My first "nice" watch was a Omega SMP that I bought about 17 years ago while in graduate school. For the first few days, I did think about how expensive my watch was, but got over it pretty quickly. I had the same experience when I bought my first Rolex (a SS DJ) a couple years later. When I bought my first PM Rolex last year (WG DD), I had been wearing an "expensive" watch for so long that it didn't phase me.

Just a bit more mindful of my surroundings when I'm wearing my PM piece, I guess

Don't really think about it. Bottom line it is just a watch. I wear it and carry on with my daily life.

Personally its situational. Formal settings PM is absolutely appropriate. No chance I wear Yellow or rose gold for daily wear. Just don't feel the need to project that

Too much thought about this. Idk if women sit around saying not going to wear my engagement ring or wear it only on anniversary because 25k. They wear proud and post online for people to see. If can afford should be fine. I imagine if can't just write check or need to finance then would be stressed.
