Double Wristing

It's a new year!
Many people join gyms, whilst starting new and exciting hobbies & reflecting on how life can be improved.

I instead bought a watch as an enabler for these hopes and dreams! :D
It's a Garmin Fenix 6S, I'm very fond of its technology and data analystics.
I however can't bear to remove my mechanical watch.

My question to the masses is: Are you double wristing (one watch on each wrist) in 2020? Do you think it's acceptable? Has anyone called you out on the stupidness? It started gaining popularity in 2016 with the Apple watch release. It's been 4-5 yrs now, Is it yet part of normality?

As some personal history for my contextual fear: Last year I was on a little boat taxi in Lake Geneva. The gentlemen opposite me was wearing a Platinum Daytona on the left, AP on the right. I thought he looked ridiculous.

I don't want to be ridiculous! Perhaps too late. But anyone else doing the double? (With a apple/fitbit/garmin type watch?) I think i'll keep one safely tucked under my cuff for now!

I think one mechanical, high end watch on each wrist is for the eccentric.

One mechanical and one tech watch like an Apple Watch on each wrist is actually functional and speaks to one’s style.

I wear a Fitbit on my right wrist and my watch on my left wrist. Nobody notices nobody cares. Been doing it for 14 months now and my average is about 110,000 steps per week

I do the same. I wear the fitbit Alta, which with its slim profile, looks more like a wrist band, and not at all like a watch.

I do think the more the fitness device looks like a watch, the less this look would appeal to me. Just my two cents.

BTW, my weekly average is about 130k.

I won’t even wear a Fitbit on one wrist and my watch on the other. That’s a personal preference and i don’t give people a hard time for it. But I have a couple of friends who have tried a smart band or Apple Watch in addition to their mechanical watch, and they have been slaughtered!

One of the fitness monitors that looks like a band? Yes. A full-sized watch on each wrist? No. Looks tacky, IMO.

I have a Garmin Fenix3 HR and switch back and forth between it and my mechanicals. When I'm wearing a mechanical, I just put the Gamin in my pocket, so I can continue tracking my movement for the day. been doing this for years, and doesn't bother me one bit, barely noticeable. Sits pretty flat in my pockets because straps fold 180degrees.

Whoa, interesting this came up. I didn’t realize this was a thing until I saw a gentleman this past weekend on the subway wearing a Rolex on his left wrist and an Apple Watch on his right wrist. I was dumbfounded and just stared. Personally, I think it’s stupid and would never do it, but to each their own. Do what makes you happy.

I throw a Jawbone Up on my right wrist when I want to monitor steps or activity. Very minimalist. Sends data to my iPhone for later.

Two mechanical watches, no way.

One mechanical watch and one small device like a Fitbit that is more of a health monitoring device than watch on other wrist I think would be ok as its more bracelet looking.

I don’t prefer the look of an Apple watch with a mechanical watch. Its the reason I don’t own one as it would take away wrist time from a “real” watch.

I wear my mechanical watch on my left wrist and a slim Garmin Vivosport on the right. I think the Fenix would be a bit too large for me.

I am an either/or type of guy. If I need to have my sports watch on, it means I don't need anything else during that time, and vice versa.

I wouldn't... I put on my apple watch when I go to the gym, otherwise its mechanical

I wear my apple watch on the right and mechanical watch on the left only at work to be honest. In casual / public environments, i wear bracelets on the right and mechanical watch on the left.
I consider the apple watch to be a gadget which allows me to not take my phone out regularly while working.

Shouldn't the mechanical watch companies be working on this little problem? Or perhaps they are? Imagining something like the Breitling Aerospace Evo only with a more robust digital display. The tricky part would be fitting everything onto the dial.

It’s not really a good look either but an alternative nonetheless.

Regardless of what option you choose be it double wrist, double on one wrist, ankle, etc. If judgement is your concern, strangers are too preoccupied to notice, and if they notice they won’t care after 5 minutes. Your loved ones already know you have a weird thing for watches and will just be amused.

All very true points. We should wear whatever we feel comfortable in, to the extent it doesnt overly upset or annoy others. No doubt my friends will be highly amused and I don't mind if a stranger disapproves. It was more whether when spoken about it elected a 'WTF is that!', or just another idiosyncrasy :)

I worked with a guy that did, I think he had a GMT and a Kermit.

Can't remember the reason, nor did it seem to bother him.

it's just fashion - do what you want

I started doing this 2 years ago and haven't looked back. Id like an even smaller apple watch for what i use it, health tracking and notifications.
