I bought this watch on Fleabay in 2000. I was pretty naive back then and didn't realize how poorly this watch bad been serviced. It's really hard to miss how crapy the dial looks, I just accepted it because I was glad to have a rose dialed Sub (mine was stolen in 1994). Thanks to this forum, I now have a little better eye.

I know to some, having the dial refurbished is blasphemous. This dial is so ugly, that I really don't have much choice. It's easy to see that an amateur tried to make it glow again.

So, I'd like to know who provides this kind of service and how good their service is. I am cost conscious, but don't mind spending a bit more to have it done right. If you have an example to share with me, I'd love to see it.

Check with Bob Ridley at Watchmakers.com......

This looks like the surrounds and hands can be cleaned out and proper Luminova re-applied.. I don't think that you want to do too much else except a good cleaning...

Thanks for the feedback. I think it needs more than that. If you look carefully at the 12 o'clock marker, you can see what looks like a shadow or staining around it. The guy that "restored" the dial got sloppy.

If you go on the watchmakers.com website, there is a pic of an old "pre-daytona" that he restored the dial on, it looks amazing.

I just sent in my Rose Dial Tudor to him for service which was unbelievably never serviced before.

I will post a thread when it comes back with before and after pics. Its not going to be for a while though.

Bob told me he just got some more parts for these pieces which are hard to come by so you may want to send your watch soon.

WOW, I just finished an hour long phone conversation with Bob. I cannot begin to say enough nice things about him. He really has a passion and love for Rolexes. And, it's spreading through his family. One of his sons is working with him and the other will more than likely join him in the next couple of years. Bob has worked hard to create a business to support our watches.

As you can see the dial on my Tudor is pretty ugly. He may be able to do a partial restoration and save the script and logo in the center of the watch. that would be the best case. If not, he would have to redo the entire face. Either way works for me. It's just too ugly the way it is.

Why dont you look for an original dial thats in good shape they are out there. A redial is a redial.Ive never seen 1 I was happy with.

I have been keeping my eye open for one. If I see one, I would certainly pick it up.
