First Rolex (?) finally
Historically my watch collecting has been into Omega and Longines and UG chronos.
I have just bought a nice Rolex which I find little info on when googling, it is a 1952 Oyster precision 6224. Meaures like 36mm. Is this a rare watch (relative terms) in the oyster family? Any sourve where I can read up? Thanks for helping a Rolex newbie |

Curious. Why did you but it if you had no idea what it is?

Good question, probably a mix of gut instinct and curiosity to the 36mm, I have a Tudor in Oyster case but smaller and most I have seen on auctions are like 34mm, so I have an idea of what is is but have difficulties finding the 6224 show up - only 1 or 2 of them but limited info - as mentioned I have experience in Omega and Longines and my normal way of finding more info did not really work out, hence turned to this forum.
Maybe I should ask like this; is there a reference library somewhere available (such as for Omega) where I can search. Again thanks for any advice |

I think you don't find quite as much about the entry-level Rolex models online, and I don't know of a "reference library". And I'm not sure exactly what you want to know, but I suggest asking specific questions, and hopefully people will answer. The dial has been badly repainted unfortunately.

I love manual wind Rolex. I'm glad you're enjoying your purchase, it's important to get a watch that speaks to you in some way. The 36mm is a great size --I have a 6424 and love to wear it. I'm not sure, to be honest, that your hands are Rolex. They're definitely acceptable and readable, but you might want to be on the lookout for genuine hands. I think this has the 12xx series movement, and there are a lot of parts available out there for those.

Thanks for feedback - if that is a redial plus non-orig hands the watch is definitely up for return...

Redail - confirm?!
A few close ups with hope to get a confirmation that this is a redial - thanks again in advance
I did not spot it since I am new to Rolex and the print looked quite crisp combind with the yellowish patination - so it must be a really old reprint? |

I think you may want to look closely at the minute track.

Can take the movement out in daylight tmrw...IF it is genuine I would like to keep it, I line the simplicity. But if not no chance I could live with it...again appreciate your sharp eyes and experience here

There are a lot of re-dials out there. It was routine to re-paint dials in the 30s through the 50s. The factory dials also weren't perfect, but it is a matter of degree. The markers on your dial are not only mis-aligned but also sloppy, uneven and actually crooked. With some practice, I think you will easily distinguish re-dials.

Swimming against the stream here, I don't think it's a redial.
But I do think the hands are old aftermarket replacements. |

Why would one buy this, or any watch, with this many doubts about the dial and hands (and who knows what else once the movement is revealed)? Down the road when you’re trying to sell it, all of these questions about the watch will surface again. I promise. How will you answer? It will be an exhaustive pain in the neck fielding all these questions about it and not having anything concrete to validate its originality. It’s not worth it. Buy yourself a proper, clear-cut example of an all original watch.
Or, don’t. But whatever you do, just consider the number of people here in this thread who have doubts about this piece. |

If you cant return it and want to know if it's kosher, you can have an AD send it to RSC for an estimate. They will advise of any non-authentic parts in their written estimate.

If you can return it. Then do so.
