A year of scratches

I was so annoyed at the first scratch, a few days after buying my Sub. A year in, like everyone said, I don’t care about any of them.

I don’t think the actual scratches make people happy, I think it’s the fact that the watch gets worn and enjoyed. Lots of pictures around here of watches that live in their box with a bezel protector, while people speculate on their future value.
It’s the same reason I get excited when I see the guy at my local Porsche club meets with the GT2rs that is usually dirty. It isn’t the dirt that is exciting, it’s the fact that he drives the heck out of the car!

I’ve had my Mercedes C450 for 3 years and driven the living crap out of it. It’s gone 180 many times and the brakes have been replaced several times. I drive it like it’s been stolen. 70K miles on it. It still looks brand new inside and out.

Now my watches are worn in rotation. But they are worn. Most are still in 95-98% condition. Same with my bespoke suits and shirts. A few are 3 years old and still look brand new. So you don’t have to keep your car in a garage, your watches in a safe or your clothes in a closet to keep them looking good. You just have to take care of them. I’ll never go off-roading in my Mercedes and I’ll never garden in a suit wearing my DJ. Pretty simple for me. Now if a person wants to rock clime wearing a Rolex there is nothing wrong with that. To each there own.

These things are expensive. You probably worked hard for your money, so please be careful. If you are going to do something that have a high chance of damaging your watch, take it off.

PS. LOL at people that think that a $10k+ watch is a "tool" watch. Do you seriously believe that divers are using their one directional rotating bezel to time their air tank?

I don’t do anything hard with it; I work at a desk. I just wear it all day, everyday.

Rest of the watch is in great shape.

The clasp takes a beating, though.

Whatever. It’s never getting sold. I’ll let them clean up the bracelet when it gets a ten year service.
