Yeah, I wear my watches and don’t care if it’s safe

- these posts trigger so many people - on both sides of the debate.

Personally, if you're not intentionally trying to damage your watch, everything else is fair game. It's a lot of money, no matter what Rolex you own, to have it sitting in a draw - much rather use it (this doesn't mean abuse it - cleaning the BBQ with your watch on isn't abuse!).

I wear them but I still stop and think once in a while. I have a few take some big hits int the past and if I can avoid it, I do. Example would be, working on the car, I can always manage to put a nice ding in whatever I'm wearing... But more power to you, getting dirty with a TT sub!

I never take my watch off and after more that a year is in perfect shape.

Why do I picture a bunch of well off old men (myself included on the old) listening to "Eye of the Tiger" while they strap on their PM Rolex and start doing household chores pretending they are tuff guys.

Now, I am going to take a shower and leave my toool watch on. Hell ya..

Can't wait until the wife gets home.. Putting on another watch.. Double Tooool watch action.. Nuff said!

Yeah it's cool until you bust a crystal or that ceramic bezel...then DO NOT complain about the service cost or the $();(y experience dealing with RSC and how they left lint under your crystal or whatever.

These watches aren't as tough as people dream them to me. Any decent watch can handle that stuff and still work...blah blah blah, so justifying ownership by putting them in nasty situations on purpose just to prove their tooliness seems silly. A $80 Invicta would handle that just fine...

But when that Rolex does break the costs to repair ruin all the "fun" of using your watch in situations that could be avoided by not wearing it...whereas a gshock you'd just toss it in the trash and replace it.

I certainly don't. I wear my watches everyday, but I take them off if I'm about to do something that could damage them.

This is hilarious! There's watch for every occasion and just trying to do everything with PM Rolex doesn't makes sense! It's not about money but use right watch for right occasion here I would use my Seiko instead which has day and date feature as well! If scratched or burnt, can replace easily.

Yep. I’m one. And I do enjoy wearing most any Rolex for any activity. However, I do draw the line at welding. Sparks, hot metal - nope. I would not wear my nice clothes on that one, either.

But, as Brian said so aptly above - to each his own.

And if you ever see me post an “I scratched my Rolex” thread, it will be in jest. (I think I have already contributed on that. I don’t set out to abuse them or expose to them unnecessary risk: I’m just enjoying the watches and living life.)

Yea but if you own a Rolex you should be able to afford the service cost... If not, stick to something you can. I do think they are as tough as people use them, we just created this safe queen culture and we cry over one tiny scratch and how watches are investments for our retirements

I agree that you should enjoy wearing your watch at any time and that it can take a beating but for me when the job gets real messy, I prefer to take it off!

Just because you can doesnt mean you should.

Like I stated earlier....wear it while doing something nasty...tben bust it up...NO COMPLAINTS about the service cost.

In fairness to both sides of the debate, I think this thread was prompted by the excessive concern people have shown a la "is it safe" which doesn't make it advisable to engage in activities that can compromise something of notable value. That said, I don't think anyone is out to jeopardize an expensive luxury item however they are super durable and this is often overlooked. OP may have wanted to remind himself and others of that as price points, resale values and "is it safe" concerns have become rampant.
