Explorer what’s the wait

I think I’ve almost give up on the usual SS models (sub, GMT) as my ADs won’t supply plus I am not 100% on the models these days

Starting to like the Explorer as it’s plain and simple for what I need but not flash to say hey look at me

What is the wait in the uk for this model and also value wise what’s the depreciation like on it

I know waits are worse in the UK than here in the states but couldn't quote you a time frame. Here - not much of a wait at all usually.

I’ve been on the wait list for a month for an Explorer. The ADs I spoke to quoted 6-12 months.

No one really knows but I was told around 3 months but this time of year can wobble as baselworld is on the horizon and demand can spike in February. No rhyme or reason to it but just my ADs observations. I was told that the estimate could extend to 6 months on a worst case scenario but more likely to be 2-3. I think your relationship with the AD comes into play too. If you have no history at all you may struggle. Hope this helps.

Out of interest how come you all want the explorer too just seeing what’s the appeal

There have been a lot of " incoming" threads lately. SS models. Mostly by just popping into an AD. I would take a day a travel to various AD's near you. You might be the next lucky pop in.

I got the call beginning of December after a 3 month wait. No prior purchase history with the AD

I just got my Explorer a few weeks ago. My wait time in Colorado was around 10 months. When I chatted with the AD, they said they only got two Explorers last year. This is the first Explorer they got this year and it was reserved for someone else initially. They ended up passing and I was next on the list.

I walked into Goldsmiths Nottingham on the 2nd of Jan they ask me what I was looking for I said Explorer I walked out with one an hour or so later.

They did mention it had been delivered an hour before so I may have just dipped lucky.

Clearly available seems to vary significantly from locality to locality given the range of responses here. I was fortunate to get mine with no wait last month. Here’s my Explorer story:

I bough mine from a local Independent AD last month. I had a nominal purchase history from the AD with a Tudor Black Bay last year. Of course, no stainless sports models were in the case. I told the sales associate whom I didn't recognize that I was a previous customer and that I was interested in getting an Explorer. I asked if they had a wait list and was advised that "we don't have lists but I can take your information down and we will call you when one becomes available." This was more or less the response that I expected and I left my contact information with her.

I then wandered around the store, "just looking" at various watches that I either didn't want or couldn't afford. I then ran into the store owner whom I hadn't met before but recognized his name from reviews of the store that I had read. I casually mentioned that I was interested in an Explorer, had left my information with the SA, and that I was happy with my previous purchase. He then asked me when I would be ready to buy the Explorer and I responded "any time". His response was "maybe we can do something, I have a little stash in back." Low and behold, a few minutes later he returns with a new mark II 214270. The SA that I initially spoke to seemed genuinely surprised to see it and I don't think she knew that it existed. A short while later I walked out of the store with a big smile and my face and my first Rolex on my wrist.

Moral of the story: If you have little to no purchase history with your AD, I would recommend finding out who the manager or owner is and speaking with them directly if you can. You may end up being pleasantly surprised as I was.

Oh yes it really is a fantastic watch.
I set it on the 2nd of Jan and its been running ever since at + 0.6 seconds a day.

Close friend been waiting 7 months now in London for an Explorer.

I was in Dubai airport a couple of weeks ago and the SA there said they hadn’t had one in over a year.

As the Explorer is a SS sports Rolex don’t expect anything anytime soon although as you can see some people get lucky sometimes.

Also it’s a beautiful watch. Really mesmerises you once you put it on. Classy, modern and slick. Love it.

I was lucky enough to be offered one on my first visit to a London dealer. I had been register for a Submariner for a while with their system company, but they didn’t know that at the point they offered me the watch.

I was told it came in that day, and the original customer cancelled the order.

I’m guessing here, but I took a bit of time to look at the range, and get taking to the SA. During our conversation the reason for my purchase came up and I think it made him feel like I was a genuine buyer, but that’s a guess.

That was in October, and I also picked up the Submariner yesterday from the same dealer, WoS in Regent Street.

Just can’t bring myself to buy one.

It’s the perfect watch. One you could wear daily for the rest of your life, in all situations. I want to make sure I keep wearing my collection.

Almost why I never wear the bb58 I own. Very similar story.

Depreciation is not a concern, a year old piece with box and papers are trading at between £5500 £6000 from private sellers on Chrono24. But I would register with a few dealers, and wait it out. That way, you’ll have a better chance of getting another SS model down the line.

Great line, it’s what I’m thinking the watch will look great on my wrist in 20,30, 40 years time I just can’t say that about I sub not sure I’d want to wear the watch when I’m an old man

Bought it from the Window in 2014. It had been sat there a couple of weeks along with various other SS Sports. Sorry that was not much help :(
