Rolex gold spring bars 18k or gold plated?

Hi all,

Are gold Rolex spring bars in 18k solid gold or just gold plated? Are they different from any replacement ones as the Rolex ones were also OEM parts?

Thanks

The bars in my day date are solid 18k and they need to be as gold is softer than steel, and steel will slowly enlarge the lug holes on a gold watch.
Just purchased an OEM replacement pair from a dealer and they are only a couple hundred dollars. Don’t see a reason to purchase aftermarket when the real ones are cheap and accessible.

Yes Rolex ships gold springbars in their gold watches.

Guess what metal is used in springbars for their platinum watches?

Any AD with a parts account should be able to get them. My AD ordered them for me and it took about 1 week.

I see. Even if the watch was not bought at that AD? Do they have to check the watch like RSC? Cause my 16808 came with steel spring bars and I want to change them into Rolex original gold ones.

What do you mean “check the watch”? They will want you to bring the watch in to confirm what they are selling you, because they don’t just sell parts. Your watch shouldn’t have come with steel spring bars to my knowledge.

Yes it should have come with solid gold spring bars but like most gold watches, the spring bars are taken out when they are sold.

I got mine from the RSC @ around USD 200 for the pair.

They won't sell you them loose, though. I went to the RSC to pick them up without the 1803, and they wouldn't give me them. They insisted on seeing the watch and fitting the spring bars themselves. They don't want them to just be sold on in the secondary market.

As always, though, some ADs will bend the rules if they know you.

They will take the watch to RSC and get the parts changed or they will just order the parts after seeing the watch?

My AD needed to see the watch first, then ordered the parts, then needed me to take the watch back to the AD to have them fitted once they arrived.

They wouldn't order or give me them without the watch being present, but they didn't need to send the watch to the RSC.

Again, though, different ADs seem to do different things...

Call your AD!
As I have already said, they will want the watch to be there so they can confirm you have it, because they won’t sell you “parts” without the watch.
