Clasp 18mm circa 1970

I was considering to convert my Explorer 2 mk2 to a leather strap. For such I was wondering if someone could pointing me on the right direction to find which is the correct folding clasp for the epoque...

I believe that the 1655 was exclusively sold on a bracelet. What type of folding clasp are you talking about?

Can you post a photo of what you are looking for, or mention a 1970 Rolex reference that came with a folding clasp on a leather strap? I assume you're not referring to a standard tang buckle.

In the '70s and likely for several decades, Rolex bracelets and straps were 16mm at the clasp/buckle.

If you are sticking leather on your watch and have a typical 18mm strap, you may need to look at the later (very recent) Cellini clasp or buckle options. They are not easy to come by, and all are gold, so not cheap either.
