Anyone do some selling off lately?
Just curious in light of recent events.
Is everyone still holding onto all their pieces or did you move some recently? No need to specify how many of each sold and for how much - keep it simple Personally...I still have all mine. |

It does seem like a lot of people are trying to sell now while still near the top.
Lots of subs hitting the For Sale section all of a sudden. Prices on subs seem to be headed back to MSRP I am not selling, however I do want to buy one. But I have decided to wait 1-2 months though to see what happens with the economy. |

Well with 3.5 million Americans applying for unemployment last week alone and another month of shut down in front of us I suspect you’re going to see people selling a lot more than watchers in the coming months.
As for me though no. I won’t be selling anything unless I get bored of it.

Second hand market coming back to earth.
I'll still buy at ADs if given the chance. If you are looking for a second hand deal I'd hold out. |

Purchased a Deep Sea JC 3 weeks ago for $12900. Took offers from 3 big gray market dealers. One wasn't interested at the present time. Two other offers were for $10,000 and $10500. Wife encouraged me to keep the watch and I will! Love the watch, money isn't the issue. These times scream of being frugal. Now I look at the watch as a ray of hope. Optimism for the future, better times ahead!

If you really love your JC listen to wife. It's a watch quite hard to find no matter the economy

I turned my Daytona (purchased at MSRP from an AD) into cash and a BLNR. I had been thinking of selling as it wore small on me and market conditions prompted me to unload it while i still could get a very fair price. Just two weeks later that now is looking like it was a good decision in hindsight and I am very happy with the BLNR, and extra cash to invest in stock

If you're selling in a downturn could you ever really afford them?

Haven't sold and don't plan on selling anything off. Have been contemplating trading two for a grail... still debating though.

I sold a modern no date recently - happy with the money I got but had to shop around before I got the price I wanted. Even then the person I sold it too, I have had numerous dealings with in the past so it was a case of trust and good experiences to get what I got.
Pre-corona and maybe even pre-infamous-watchfinder sale (where everyone started to wonder then if the market was crashing) - I probably would have gotten £500 more had I sold then but I can't complain since I got the watch at retail. Guess in this market, it's all about what you are deem as acceptable and everyone has a different perception on that. |

If the piece was originally purchased "grey" then buying high and selling low is not the best idea. If your circumstances force this action, then you have to do what you have to do.
But if you're not absolutely forced to, then don't. If you purchased from an AD and you can get MSRP or still slightly higher, and you need the liquidity, then selling now may be an okay action.

I don't buy to sell and I will not sell them because of this COVID-19 situation.

Sold last February a 2018 BLNR for a good price (€12,3k) to a grey. Looking for a new addition, but will not buy pre-owned in the current downturn.

Sold 116710 BLNR about a month ago locally for $12k. I had bought it about 6 months ago and it wasn’t getting a ton of wrist time. Took a 700 dollar hit but is what it is, I didn’t want to deal with a private sale.
I had planned to get a sub date and got a couple calls from ADs but passed for now. Maybe once this is all over. |

If anyone is selling a Hulk with box, papers, etc at or below MSRP lemme know. i don't mind a few scratches as wear 'em like beaters.

I see ignorant and arrogant statements like this far too often. With the unprecedented turmoil on the economy, people’s situations can turn from great to dismal very quickly. I personally know several people who have lost jobs recently. Another one that might have to come out of retirement due to the loss in his portfolio. If I lost my job, would I sell my unnecessary luxuries to keep a roof over my family’s head and food on the table? Damn right I would. Does that mean that those who find themselves in a hardship couldn’t afford a watch prior to Corona? No, it doesn’t.

Everything is staying put, except the Thunderbird I bought from a friend, who now that he's doing better financially, would like to have it back.
I told him I'd sell it back to him, but that he'd have to pay for the service I had done on it. He was good with that. We won't make the deal until the all clear is given however.

Trying. Seems there aren't many places where I can easily sell off. Not because of the downturn, but because I'm trying to upgrade.
