Never been, but take notice when you do go, if you were able to see Russia and get back to us on that.

You have to be more specific...

There are a number of different Alaska Cruises that go to different places, and start at different ports...

Most of the time, you don't even have to get off ship....

My neighbor's parents take an Alaskan cruise once a year and next to New Zealand, they say it's the best trip to take. Be warned, they are in their seventies.

Funny, we are going with my wife's parents and they are older... We are also taking our 12 year old. So, it will be a "different" paced trip... I have heard that it is beautiful. The pic by Tools is beautiful!

I went on an Alaskan cruise last May, set off from San Francisco, got married on board in Seattle harbour so never got much chance to have a look around, did manage to get to see the covered market though which is well worth the trip, most of the excursions were top notch, sea plane trip over the glaciers and a train ride on the route of the goldrush were my highlights, one that I didn't enjoy was the semi submarine (boat where you sit under the water line) trip in Ketchikan is probably the only one I wouldn't recommend, the scenery is simply breathtaking, ended up in Vancouver which is probably the most beautiful city I have ever seen (Figures, it was founded by a Yorkshireman) well worth paying for the London red bus tour around the city and staying an extra night in a hotel there.

Highlight of the tour, getting married in Seattle of course, gives the phrase "Sleepless in Seattle" a whole different meaning.

Thanks for the response... That sounds very similar to the route we are taking. SF - I think we return to SF.... though.

Sounds great. I will look into the Sea Plane and the Goldrush Train... I am excited about Vancouver also - they should be prepping for the Winter Olympics...

I am thinking about an Alaskan cruise in June, but it will be a one way instead of a round-trip. The idea is to depart from Whittier and arrive in Vancouver. The only must see on my list is Glacier Bay, which only a select number of cruises are allowed to enter.

Wife and I did did the week-long Alaskan cruise and we did not like it. I wanted to go to Hawaii, she wanted the cruise and guess who won? The food that everyone who's been on a cruise raves about was not that great. The couple who we shared the dinner table with every night was on their 10th cruise. I guess to each his/her own. In the end, she made it up with me with a very nice watch.

Could you tell me which cruise line you took? Was it one way or round-trip? And what was the departure/arrival port was?

Debating between an Alaskan cruise or Caribbean cruise so I'm trying to get information.

Holland America Lines, the Oosterdam. It was a round-trip from Seattle.
