Fake early model AP?

Hello! Serious question for all watch guys. How common is it for a vintage or early model AP royal oak to be fake? I mean I know there is fake watches everywhere especially modern ones and modern/vintage rolex as well, but For AP early models like 80s, 90s or even early 2000 models to be fake how likely is it? Asking this because I am trying to get into early model AP myself and doing a lot of research. I think there would be more rolex fake watches out there than early AP watches. I could be wrong. Thanks guys! Be safe

Depends how you define fake. It's a jungle to be certain all parts are genuine and period correct. There is some risks to pursuing a vintage royal oak without proper research and consulting trustworthy experts. I have just last months on a friends behalf examined more than one top dollar example for sale that was found having a mix of ports from different "series".

is it possible to use the AP "archive extract" service for the older watches to help give you some assurance that the watch is legit?

I'm pretty new to the AP brand so I'm not able to offer much more than that, but I can say that the 15500 in grey really has turned my head onto these..... and drooling over 15202's but earlier models I'm clueless

There are fake everything, including vintage AP.
I saw in Turkey fake 5204 (A serial of course) with choking quality, the only thing that gave away is it was too new for a nearly 50 year old watch.
The tougher to catch are the Frankenstein, you’ll need an expert’s eye to know what is what in the vintage world.
