Good afternoon folks

I am trying to get my vintage 7928 serviced (cal 390) and a new old stock service dial installed (I already have) and maybe the hands painted to match the “new” dial.

It is running, just slow and I know it’ll need no gaskets, oil, regulation...hopefully no parts needed but who knows, as I know the 390s are a pain to work on and get parts for.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi TOOLS, I actually had a great conversation with Rik this morning! He said he may be able to work on it, but due to it being a cal 390 he doesn’t have any parts if needed but may be able to. I may send it to him and see what he thinks since it’s running fairly smooth.

Some parts are available. Balance staffs are available so that’s a good thing.

As far as other parts go, most things can be repaired like polishing pivots, re-bushing things, etc.

The 390 is truly a watch that is well within restoration status these days.

When it comes to vintage watches like this, there isn’t really such a thing as a ‘clean, oil and adjust’.

Mainsprings aren’t available, but you can get very close replacements, they are just slightly stronger.

Ashton, thank you for the heads up that makes me feel much better about sending it off confidently. Good deal! Well I can’t wait to see it back on the wrist with a new service dial and it running well!

Good thing with the 390 is that it was used in fairly cheap Tudor watches so worst case you need to go hunting for a donor watch. Parts alone can also be sourced but people tend to ask quite a bit why it’s sometimes just better to go for a donor and feel lucky. ;)

Roh123, that’s definitely a good point, that was at the back of my mind as a worst case scenario! I can’t wait to have my uncles tudor sub on the wrist that he received before heading off to Vietnam! Thank you for all the help!
