Well, no communication today. I can think of three possibilities: 1. He is as uncertain about this Rolex market as any of us; and coming up with a price is difficult for him. These aren't watches that are normally hanging out in his display case; 2. He reads this board, and doesn't like the 20-30% suggested discounts on here (which, btw, I do appreciate :)), or 3. He dropped the ball or he's distracted by something.
The fact that Rolex is shutting down Beverely Hills, after how many years of being there? You would think the presence there would be important to them for their image. I know they use NY as the distribution hub for watches, and Dallas as the ditribution hub for parts; so maybe they just didn't want to deal with relocating distribution, so BH got the axe. But for whatever reason it turned out to be BH that got axed, it says one thing: things ain't what they used to be for Rolex. This will translate to the value of a Rolex watch. I know we all have heard the adage that anywhere in the world, if you need cash, you can always convert your Rolex to cash. Does Rolex still have that special status? Could it lose it? Well, thanks again for your interest in my story. I'll let you know if the AD every remembers I am a live. |

If he doesnt answer you and you are still eager to get 3 new watches tell us at what price you would buy them and lets see if someone here can get you your deal.As for the Rolex as good as cash thing that went out the door after so many price increases.50% off new msrp is a good rule of thumb for newer models for now.Exception daytona and a couple of others. If you dont believe me see how many SS newer style subs are available and havnt sold in the low 3's.I myself said if I can get a d,z,or m SS daytona for $5500 ill buy it.I think we are close to seeing this soon.2 tones can be found for 6k all day long.

There was an article a couple years ago stating that this upcoming generation of kids are not wearing watches. I have a brother that falls into this category and he says that with technology....like MP3 players and cell phones, he can easily tell time and he doesn't want to plunk down money for a watch. We are not talking about expensive watches here, he wouldn't even budge on a department store watch. |

I would probably walk away from him soon if he does not call or email you. There are plenty of other reliable sources for these pieces which you are guaranteed not to pay tax and get a good discount. (TRF being one of them) Sit tight Brian. |

Mate,
I expect your next post to be one with the watches. I like people that do the deal first then boast I would be suprised if you got a big discount. Enough talk I wanna see some action. Also I bet you will flip the watches as if you where keen they would be in your house

Go round to the shop and make him a one and only offer for the three. Just for the adrenalin rush! Good luck!

I sent this e-mail this morning:
Tim, I have not heard back from you. I can only presume that you are not interested in selling any or all of the watches to me. Out of courtesy, would you please confirm this presumption, or advise otherwise. If this is the case, I will pursue other options. Thank you. I find there is no need to play games. Think this will get a response? Ignoring me is a sure way to lose a proven repeat customer. I think it would be very foolish for him to blow me off, as it appears. Really makes no sense. I have always had a very cordial business relationship with the AD. |

After all the business I have given that AD (Rolex business and jewelery business), I don't need to go there. He promised to get back to me last Thursday and he didn't. As it has been said many times on this board, the market for these watches are only getting weaker. I have plenty of patience. I just don't appreciate being mistreated by being ignored. I mean, what does it take to send off an e-mail to me?

It's also entirely possible that it got thrown in his SPAM box for some reason or another. My realtor asked me if I'd received an email from her partner last night and I checked my SPAM box and sure enough it was in there, and I have no idea why my email service decided it was mass\junk mail. I'd at least confirm that he's blowing you off with a phone call if there's no response.

phone him?
Why not just give him a quick ring and find out. He knows you are a serious buyer and no one would stay in business long ignoring people who actually buy their wares. It's probably a mistake.

I'll call eventually. Since he received my prior e-mail, I don't think it's going into his spam filter. Remember, he called me on my cellphone on Tuesday and asked if I was interested. So, he knows how to use the telephone. Anyway, we will see where this saga ends up.

Hey, maybe he's waiting until after April 1, when the prices go up? Then he can give me a discount off the higher prices?

I've read this whole thread from beginning to end and I must say I don't get it?
If I want a watch, (or three) I buy them and couldn't care less about negotiating for weeks.......but then again, I'm not a lawyer.. (leaning back and waiting for the fire) |

Hmmm the april 1 is an option he might be taking. But surely he doesn't think we Rolex buyers are entirely stupid? You saw the prices of the watches when you were there and you will calculate your discount from those prices! Otherwise just laugh at him and go elsewhere.....

Actually, this has been going on for one week, today. I really can't do much if he doesn't name a price. There has been no negotiating (yet)! Do I want the watches? Sure. Can I live without them? Yes. Can he live without my money? I hope so (for his sake).

That is exactly what he is doing. I would go in there or give him a call this weekend. Even mention that you know prices are going up. If he is going to play that game, then I wouldn't bother.

I thought the price increase was for Canada and the UK?
Brian, Why don't you fire off another e-mail letting him know that you're still interested, but not too happy with him. |

Sorry for stepping in, but I would like to say something... First off, I would call him, or even better yet go to the dealer, and make him give you a price. If he says "Let me think about it, and I'll give you a price in a couple days..." DO NOT BUY THE WATHES FROM HIM!! Like others said, he would mearly be waiting for the April 1st price increase.
However, if he appologizes and gives you 20% off, I would buy the watches and be happy with the watches you bought. |

Sure you can...you give him a price that you are willing to pay. I'm not sure why that is so difficult. If you want the watches, decide what you are willing to pay and offer that to him. I would assume you already have that number in the back of your mind...why wait for the AD to throw out some amount first? Unless you think it will be less...which if you're hoping to get 30% off, I can't imagine his price will be less. You're going to end up waiting around while he sells off the watches to someone else....which maybe is okay with you. If you're just trying to drag this post along, then that is stupid!

How well do you know this dealer? Is he one to play mind games? Remember that you are his customer and not the other way around. After all, it is a business transaction and you can always take your business elsewhere. There are no shortage of other decent ADs. If possible, try to take away the emotional component and look at it purely from a business perspective.

The salesman seems to have the upper hand in the negotiations.
I think he is waiting to see how desperate you are. He probably knows this and waiting for an offer from you. I would start off with a 25% discount and see where it goes from there. Tell him the only watch you want is the Daytona and in order to get a discount for the Daytona you would have to buy 3. Tell him it's something you don't want to do with the economy the way it is but if you have to buy all 3 for a 25% discount, than so be it. Play along and act naive.... |
