watch progression

Watch progression over the last 15 years....

Omega 2254.50, Mont Blanc Timewalker, Hamilton Pan Europ Limited Edition, Ball Engineer, Oris Diver, Oris Artelier Hamilton Jazzmaster Chrono, Bremont Solo, Bremont U2 Blue, Omega Aqua Terra Chrono Gmt, Omega PO Good Planet, Rolex Explorer 2, Dornbluth and Sohn 99.1, Zenith El Primero Chronomaster, Rolex Datejust 2

All these were sold at various times and about 8 months ago I wanted to go without a watch for a while. Was actually pretty freeing.

However, now I'm going to build back a more curated collection that I plan to hold for a while....(famous last words)

Here's what I'm thinking:

Yes. I remember first seeing watches like Lange and thinking, "why would anyone pay that for a watch?"

Then I checked one out in person and changed my mind immediately! :)

All of these were sold or given away. The only watch from this list that I will receive back is my Datejust that my father will give back to me when he passes. But looking at this list its almost nauseating how much I've changed up my collection. I'm attempting to be content with what I have now, and have actually told my wife that I won't purchase any watches till our home will be paid off. And that's at least 6 years out.

Its is absurd!

Most of the watches on my list I had less than 18 months. With the exception of the Omega 2254.50, Omega PO Good Planet and the Rolex Explorer 2, I kept each of those for quite a while

Great topic! I do think about my watch journey this far. I started at age 14 with a fashion watch, a Kenneth Cole that I thought looked cool in the mall. Wore it for a few years before it was stolen. I was always into watches but couldn't afford much and was busy with life so I didn't have another watch for awhile.

I decided to eventually get a new watch and picked up a new Tissot dress watch that I used as an all-rounder for several years. It was my only watch and I wore it with every outfit.

When I got my first real job, I wanted what I thought was a proper Swiss watch, so I got a Longines Hydroconquest that I beat the crap out of for a couple years. It was nice for what it was but man the massive sharp crown guards hurt my hand on that thing.

Most recently, I sold the Longines and picked up an explorer, which is currently the only watch I wear. I still have the Tissot as I bought it while living abroad and it has sentimental value.

I remember telling myself this as well. Why would one pay more than a million pesos (about usd20k) for a watch.

And now i have a few watches that cost me at least usd20k each.
