Who cares - opening offers are just that - some materialize into real deals and some don’t. Work and massage the deal and see where it goes. Don’t take dealings with money personal.

Ultimately people forget that during a negotiation a seller wants to make as much as possible and a buyer wants to save as much as possible. No ones coming from a bad point of view here.

A low ball offer to me is one that makes it clear the buyer is hoping the seller is an idiot or desperate. The exact percentage is very dependent on circumstances.

Sometimes however, I do make low offers, but when I do I try and explain why.

For example I bought a new crystal press recently that cost about $700 new on a watch site and there was a guy selling a 20 year old version of the exact same press on ebay for about $600. I sent him an offer of $400 and told him that for more than that I'd prefer to just go with the new one. He never responded, so I guess he didn't care, but it was merely me expressing the truth of what I was willing to pay. I wasn't trying to sucker him into selling it too cheap. So in that case, I personally don't think there was anything morally wrong about making that low offer, even though some people may consider that to be a "low ball offer" with all the negative connotations that term includes.

I've never sold a watch.....but if I purchase I tend to only purchase at the asking price. Since watches aren't really unique, you kind of know what to expect going in and imo know what is fair to offer. It's tough to get deals on a watch that is out there many times over imo

Less than i'm willing to part with it for. No matter what I always respond honestly, I don't view any offer as low ball honestly, it is what it is.
