Orton Effect Photography

I've been a fan of Michael Orton since I first saw his painterly images. They were ethereal and otherworldly and reminded me of some of the cinematography of Vilmos Zsigmond from the late 70's, especially some of films of Brian DePalma. He shot shot two overerexposed slides and combined them in printing. Of course, that's a more simplistic explanation which doesn't capture the pastel beauty of what he created.

But here is a digital recreation with a few of my own pictures in homage to this style he created.

Thank you for kind comments. Unfortunately, one of the things about this method of photoshop, if you do the picture in a large size and then resize it afterwards like I did here then it becomes a little blurry. The idea is to have very sharp elements mixed in with the softer, out of focus areas. I noticed those pictures suffered from the conversion to a small size for posting.
