I sold an SD4K and later bought an SBGA231, which is the titanium brother of the 229 you mention. The wearability of the Ti is amazing, as it weighs in at about 130g with the bracelet. That’s about 30g less than a sub. The 229 weighs closer to 200g so it’s a chunk, but the 231 wears much smaller than either the SD4K or the newer Seamaster for me. My wrist is 7.5 inches. Try it if you can! I also had a skin reaction to the 904 stainless steel, so unless I have a special strap it’s a no-go. Sad, right? I sold my Explorer I as well.

I feel my Omega 2254 ticks my Sub urges. The 16570 black dial ExpII has always been my grail. So I will probably never buy a sub. Although, I do think they are a great piece and if I did buy one - it would be the 2 liner 14060M. I love the simplicity.

X2. Loved the Sub for decades but I have moved on to other divers like the DSSD JC, POC, Panerai, etc.... I feel the Sub is a bit too common for where I am as a enthusiast. The new Seamaster is a force on every level for that kind of diver.

The case/lugs are disproportionate to the bracelet.

Bought the 216570 EXP II instead.

The Submariner would be perfect if it used the 216570 EXP II case and bracelet.

Who decided in the end not to buy a Sub and why?

And today there's the YachtMariner appearance...

The lugs the lugs! Let’s make a post and make fun of the most popular watch ever! I see other watches being posted on here. Omega? Lol. The weird dials alone is a no. I’d take a brick for lugs just not to look at those dials. While I understand why people don’t like the sub as I don’t like any of the watches being posted on here, I can’t help but feel there is a little justification going on, reasons I don’t have a sub in my collection when it is the most iconic watch with Rolex.

I got a Sub 114060. It’s my favorite watch. I like it better than watches that cost a lot more money.

I’m a huge Omega fan too by the way. I love my Speedmaster Pro.

In my IMHO, the Seamaster 300m looks better than the Sub on the internet, but in person, the Submariner reigns supreme. Not even close, and the Tudor divers can’t compete with Omega...so that’s that.

There is only 1 watch that competes with the Sub and that’s the Datejust 41 with blue dial, fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. Don’t like any other variation.

I have no use for the GMT function, not a fan of the YM, and Daytonas are nice, but I don’t like them as much as the Sub.

That’s when I truly understood what people mean when they say “get the one that sings to you”.

The EXII SANG gospel to me while the Sub only softly hummed some elevator music.

Obviously much harder to try before you buy nowadays, but if there’s any way possible you can try some different models on, you’ll have an easier time.
Funny post ringing very true!

Controversial and funny. Don't like the dials much, either. But it's the SMP hands really that would prevent me from ever buying one of those. Can't do those hands. Will have a Submariner sans date eventually.

Cheers

My first Rolex I thought was always going to be a sub. Then I saw the BLNR, and that was my first Rolex purchase. Kind of fulfilled the same role. I then wanted to add a hulk, but I couldn’t get on a wait list... I want to add a black bay 58 next, seems to have a lot of the sub DNA but a true tool watch, everything the sub use to be.

Without crown guards, I don't think BB is true dive/tool watch. Rolex didn't had it when Sub was launched but quickly added owing to the crown accidents. Now almost every dive watch from any brand has one!

There is that. Diving is incredibly hard on gear. It is astonishing how thrashed it gets and looks. A little nub like a crown sticking out could easily get bashed off or catch on things and get damaged.
