ROLEX is ROLEX.
I would love to add Explorer to my humble collection.

The case is 36mm not sure of the dial size but it is as big or bigger than the Sub or the GMT.

Wow, I have never seen the Explorer I watch before, and I like it! Simple & Clean. I assume they don't make it anylonger since the Explorer II is out (which I like too!)

Those were great pic's Jocke!

The Explorer is still alive and well and available at your local Dealer.. At 36mm, it is the same size as the DateJust and the Day-Date.. The Classic 3-6-9 dial has been with it since the beginning back in ~1954, even the early Subs had that dial......

The Explorer 1 is an old Rolex model...that was advanced back then...of course today with all the competition and all those crazy complicated calibre and all those tourbillon stuff at $100K or more ...that only some ubber-rich can buy...yes the Explorer may seem old and "dépassé" but its still a beautyfull clasic like some old panerai and many other brands.

(sorry bad english).

David.

I'm in the process of deciding which Rolex will be my first. I went through the watch line on Rolex.com and there were only 2 that really caught my eye: the Milgauss and the Explorer 1. After trying on both, the Explorer 1 looks to be the winner in my eyes...and this is before I saw any of the prices.

The watch he is talking about is an old model worn by someone who never serviced his Rolex or did it by some jackass jewlers at the corner of the street!!!...and somehow the Explorer is very accurate and reliable and contributed a lot to the Rolex legacy and history!
so WTF is he talking about!!!

(sorry bad english)

Where does he mention that it's a poor man's watch? If anything, he points out that it's an overpriced watch for people with more money than brains. I don't have any input on the matter, but that's just what I understood from the article.

What defines "poor". Just because Walt or whoever says so and so, it does not mean all and sundry agree with it. He is entitled to his opinion and we ours, Expy1 is a beautiful watch and a classic!

I think it's a very nice looking watch. I think the author was wondering if the watch is worth the cost they charge for a new one. They are about $7000 Australian dollars new at the moment.

I would love to pick up a 2nd hand one.
