Looking for a everyday watch
Hi everyone, I am looking for a everyday watch.
Here is the requirements - around USD $500 - mechanical - automatic (preferably) - with date function (preferably) - rubber strap (afraid NATO/leather strap will be stinky and I can change it myself) - good looking - nice brand Any recommendations? Could Hamilton/Seiko be a good choice? Thank you! PS. I like the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical, but this is a manual winding watch and it has no date function. |

There are other Hamilton options with day and date, automatic not manual, etc.

Tissot has a few models in that price range, as does Victorinox.

There are also quite a few micro brands that have a great reputation as well, if that’s something you'd like to peruse...Undone and Zelos are great to start with.

I think Hamilton or Seiko are some of the very best choices in that price range:
If you like the diver style this with a day and date function serves as a good daily. Same for the Turtle, but I think it's too large for everyday, though very comfortable. No date on this Hamilton, but it's still a great every day wear: |

In that price range, Steinhart is worth a look.

I love this Hamilton, the military look and the “vintage” feel are perfect. If I am really buying a Hamilton, I will choose this. Although there is no date and this is a manual winding watch. |

No that's an older SKX 009...but the Seiko 5 divers have the same case dimensions and many choices for dial and bezel.
42mm and 13 and change thick. Wears a little smaller than 42mm in my opinion which is a good thing. Short lugs. This one is new for me and I have worn it everyday since getting it... just under a couple weeks so far. |

True, I saw some nice Swatch Sistem51 and I tried to search some comment on this watch. Some people said the plastic case will break easily if it is too old. I want a watch that I can wear/own/keep it in my entire life.

saw this one on Seiko’s website and it looks stunning. Black strap and rose gold color case. But there is a concern, Seiko said the case is made of stainless steel, but it is in rose gold color, is it a rose gold coating? If it is scratched, will it turn silver? |

I would say Seiko all the way. The Alpinist looks like it can be had for under $500. Comes on a leather strap, but you could always toss it on rubber.

With that said I’d go Seiko all the way. Perhaps a pre-owned monster? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I like some of the Lum-Tec models. Most models are slightly over the $500 budget, but not much. If you have never seen one in person, the lum is incredible. Luminox is also a very dependable brand.

I have a Daniel Jean Richard now known as Jean Richard that is a great auto watch in that price range (at least it was years ago when purchased).

I'm sorry, Lum-Tec is the brand. They used to have some models that closely resembled Panerai. I regret not buying their bronze addition when it was available.
