i dont think it could be called a collection if it's only 1 watch.

i ended up getting the gmt 1st because it was there

Now the GMT 116710 LN is my primary watch (even though I have a number of other watches including a Sub, Daytona, Explorer 2, APRO, and others).

I think the GMT is the best watch Rolex makes.

I think rotating any of the 6 digit steel GMT’s on the sub glidelock bracelet is the best configuration.

I have just one Rolex, and it’s the 42mm white gold Yachtmaster. I did have a ceramic sub several years ago, but couldn’t get-on with the thick lugs and ‘blocky’ case. I found it pretty ugly.
The new version is an improvement; not before time. But I will stick with the Yachtmaster. I probably won’t ever buy another Rolex. Nice as they are. Had lots in the past, but that’s done. Good company though.

I bought my first Rolex in 2016 and back then had the choice between an LN GMT and a Hulk. Both were in the store and I just couldn't choose the Hulk over the GMT due to the extra complication and a little thinner.

Sometimes I think I should have got the Hulk, but then I love how easy it is to wear the GMT as green can be a bit difficult I am sure.

I landed up selling the GMT to add funds for an Aquanaut, then a few months after selling, got the opportunity right after discontinuation to buy the last one from my AD, so I bought the same Rolex again :D

Glad I did as I enjoy having a Rolex in the stable and having tried since, I cannot add another s they are just unobtainable.

But for now I will just enjoy having my current small collection while "waiting" for a white Daytona and Pepsi GMT.

I will say that I have found the price of the DJ41 to be a little crazy after the last price increase last year.

My one Rolex was a Rolesor Daytona... but then I bought a sub

First I acquired my 16610 sub. Later, I picked up the polar expII 16570, and felt a little weird about buying a second Rolex when the first one was so great. But now, if I had to keep only one, it would be the expII. It's just a perfect, everyday casual watch - non-blingy, very understated, super comfortable.

My one and only Rolex is a SD43 (so called Mk1)

  • Why choose something other than the icon?

I had a 16610 and a 116013LN so have scratched the 5 and six digit itch. Was never a fan of the all steel six digit subs (until seeing the 126610)

  • Is it your every day watch?

Basically yes, but I have other watches that get wrist time.

  • Any plans to "pass it on" to the next generation?

    No. I don't have kids

  • Did you get it to scratch the Rolex itch and just lost interest in the brand after joining the crown club?
Nope. I got it because I've always preferred Sea Dwellers to subs and the Sea Dweller was "born" same year I was, so being a 50th anniversary release made it the perfect 50th gift to myself, and picking up in the anniversary year (2017) even more so.

Yes! The perfect Rolex, in my opinion.

It is a very SAFE BET that the overwhelming majority of Rolex owners have a one Rolex collection and that that overwhelming majority of them do not own the Sub. And if I were betting, I would bet the most popular one Rolex collections in existence are Datejusts.

I've got this 216570 fused to my wrist and I don't see any other watch from any maker displacing it anytime soon. I live in NYC and my wife is Australian, so a GMT complication has become a must for me and imo every GMT watch that isn't a Rolex is a silly idea for everyday use. The right 16710 could challenge for wrist time, but I haven't found one yet that wasn't overpolished and/or overpriced.

I have an Explorer (114270) only. Probably the best watch for reading the time quickly and arguably one of Rolex's other icons.

Although I like the Submariner, I prefer the Explorer's 3-6-9 dial and size. Can also dress up or down easily.

It is a daily (unless I am doing something which will risk damaging it), I will never sell it.

Depending on how things go, I might expand the collection - either an old Submariner (14060M), white gold Day-Date or SS GMT-Master II.

I wear a DJ 36 everyday. My only Rolex and its pushed my other watches pretty much out of rotation.

I could easily be a 2 watch guy with a DJ 36 for 90% and a beater $15 Casio for the other 10% of the time.

My only watch is a milguass z blue. The reason I didn’t buy a sub is because a lot of people have them, the great thing about the Milgauss is there are not to many of them about. Also they can be worn for casual or for more dressed up occasions

I chose the YM 42 bc it’s the first Rolex that had the “look” I was after. Unfortunate that they made it only in PM bc it made it needlessly expensive. It’s my only Rolex.

My one Rolex is an OP 36. While my first was a DJ but sold long ago I still have and wear the OP.

The size, look and comfort on my wrist is better for me than wearing a diver on a daily basis. I don't care about status so getting someone else's icon doesn't interest me.

It is my daily watch but I have others that get wrist time as well. Most days it's the 116000. I've had watches from JLC, Minerva, IWC, Nomos and others but seem to come back to Rolex when I'm looking for a wear anywhere watch. I would have kept them all if possible but that's not my reality.

I don't buy personal items with intentions of passing it on to another. That's what gifts are for. :-)

My appreciation of watches goes well beyond Rolex. For my daily wear the Oyster Perpetual is one of the best options for me. Comfortable, reliable, durable, accurate watches that are well made and have great after sales service. The total package is hard to find.

Good point...the whole idea of "honey, I got you a present today but you will have to wait until I die to get it" is a bit odd.
